Visit of the French Minister of Higher Education and Research Sylvie Retailleau

I had the pleasure of showing a little bit of our work on porous media flows to the French Minister of Higher Education and Research Sylvie Retailleau and the Ambassadress of France in Norway Florence Robine. They came for a visit to our group Njord at the University of Oslo to work on the opportunities for scientific collaboration between Norway and France. Both the Minister and the Ambassadress have background in physics and it really was super interesting to chat with them!

Art-Sci project: POROUS MATTER - Void Fractions in Materials, Ideas and Society

In collaboration with the art curator Mirela Vladuci, we worked on the development of sci-art project that culminated in the opening of the exhibition ππŽπ‘πŽπ”π’ πŒπ€π“π“π„π‘ - 𝐕𝐨𝐒𝐝 π…π«πšπœππ’π¨π§π¬ 𝐒𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐒𝐚π₯𝐬, 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 π’π¨πœπ’πžππ² (video above, turn on captions, booklet here and press release here). The exhibition is hosted by the MV Sci-Art center in Timisoara, Romania and happens in the context of Timisoara being chosen as the 2023 European Capital of Culture. Marcel Moura and Alex Hansen collaborated with artists and scientists from Norway and Romania in this project. Marcel Moura also contributed with two experimental models turned into art pieces that are now in display at the exhibition. The works entitled β€œPorous Hypnosis 1” and β€œAll roads are porous” allow visitors to interact with the systems and get a feeling for the intermittent dynamics characteristic of porous media flows.

The Gallery of Porous Media Art

In connection with InterPore Norway, I have established The Gallery of Porous Media Art, an online platform where any researcher working in topics related to porous/granular media can showcase stunning images/videos of their work. Each entry in the Gallery is followed by a catchy title, a short description and reference (when related to published work). If you would like to collaborate with material for the gallery, please contact me.Β
